Something a little different from me this week!
As part of The Big Mummy Blog Share this week I am featuring a fellow mummy blogger!
Meet Rachael Thomas from Mumma Belle Howe. She is a mummy blogger from Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire.
When did you start your blog?
I started my blog back in early 2017 just after I had my first daughter.
Why did you decide to start blogging?
I had been on maternity leave for a few months and I was looking for something to do. I have always loved writing and once I'd had my daughter, I had so many strong emotions and thoughts whirling around, I just felt that I needed some sort of outlet, so blogging seemed like a perfect solution! I began to follow many different mum bloggers on Instagram and discovered a world that I just seemed to relate to. It became something I really loved doing instantly.
What has been your favourite blog to write?
Perhaps my first one, Perks of the job, because I didn’t know what I was going to say or where it was going to lead.
What has been your most successful blog?
Looking back through my stats, my first blog post was the most successful. Beginners luck perhaps! But I did a blog about items I found useful as a first time mum, and I know a number of my expectant friends found that useful as I got quite a few messages about it!
What is your favourite thing about being a mum blogger?
I love being able to get my thoughts and feelings down on paper. I often discover things I didn’t realise I thought until I start writing. I’m often quite a private, awkward person around people, but blogging gives me a way to communicate to others and be more open and honest. I also love that I’m able to document things about my life, and my children’s lives that they'll be able to read and share later in life.
What is your least favourite thing about being a mum blogger?
The fear right before I hit the “publish” button! The constant nagging doubts I have in my mind: Have I said too much? Who is going to want to read this? I get really nervous!
When do you get most of your blogging done?
Usually while breastfeeding – it’s amazing how much I can type on my phone one-handed! (I'm feeding right now!) I usually have more time to write in the evenings so that’s a good time for me. I sometimes use blog-writing to keep me awake during the night feeds, but it always needs a decent proof-read the following morning, or scrapping and starting again!
What is your favourite mummy blog to read?
I have been following Susie Verrill on Instagram for years, she’s absolutely hilarious, has the most adorable boys and had a really grounded and real view on motherhood. I started reading her blog when I was expecting my first and I find her writing really honest, refreshing and entertaining! But I follow many mum bloggers and love discovering new ones.
Any tips for anyone thinking about starting a blog
Just go for it! I don’t think there are any rules to adhere to, so just get going That’s what I did and have really loved it. Just write about what you love and enjoy and you can’t go far wrong!
